Requisites:
Learning Outcomes: Students who complete the unit successfully will:
* Have understood and are able to apply all the main grammatical structures of language;
* Have broadened their vocabulary in a number of specific areas;
* Be able to translate intermediate-level texts and produce written Spanish to an intermediate standard with the aid of a dictionary;
* Be able to understand the major themes of a TV news item, documentary or radio programme;
* Be able to make a presentation and hold a conversation on practical and some more advanced themes.


Synopsis: Building on what you learnt in Year 1, you will continue to improve your skills in your chosen language. You will study in depth writing and speaking. This will improve your ability to communicate and express complex ideas appropriately. By engaging with original materials (text, audio and video), you will learn to identify and use advanced grammatical structures. This will broaden your vocabulary, and develop your understanding of a wide variety of cultural, social and political contexts.

Content: Building on the skills and knowledge acquired during the first year, this unit continues the intensive development of linguistic skills and awareness. Covering a broad range of topics relevant to the context of the culture and language studied, there is a particular focus on preparing students for their study/placement abroad. All four skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) are practiced and worked on, as well as aspects of translation and mediation. Language seminars with a high exposure to the target language are complimented by a weekly class in English, focusing on key topics relevant to the language studied.
