By the end of the Unit students will be able to:
1. Explain a range of theories and models for social work intervention with individuals, families, groups and communities across different stages of the Life Course (PS * 1.4; 3.13; 3.14; 4.2; 4.3) 2. Recognise the short and long term impact of psychological, socio-economic, environmental and physiological factors on people's lives, taking into account age and development, and how this informs practice (PS 1.4; 1.5; 3.4; 3.14; 3.15; 4.3; 4.4) 3. Recognise the centrality of relationships for people and the key concepts of attachment, separation, loss, change and resilience (PS 1.4; 2.3; 2.5; 3.4; 3.14; 3.15) 4. Analyse forms of harm and their impact on people, and the implications for practice, drawing on concepts of strength, resilience, vulnerability, risk and resistance, and apply to practice (PS 2.3; 2.5; 3.3; 3.4; 3.14; 3.15; 6.4; 6.6) 5. Synopsis: | Gain knowledge of human growth and development, examining psychology across the life course and the ability to apply these concepts in relation to social work practice. A psychosocial approach will be introduced, providing perspectives that explain societal and structural influences on human behaviour. |
