On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:
- Describe construction and fabrication processes and techniques appropriate to each material. (K2)
- Recognise the basis of design standards and apply the concepts of limit state design to the design of structural elements (K3)
- Evaluate implications of engineering decision making in the safe and sustainable design of structural systems. (K4, PT2)
- Integrate your knowledge of structural design and construction in an unfamiliar design context and reflect upon your design choices as a team. (I1)

| Synopsis: | Learn about concepts of limit state design and its practical application to a variety of construction materials, including reinforced and pre-stressed concrete, steel, timber and masonry. You will integrate analytical and conceptual understanding of structural action with material selection through producing creative and competent designs.
