Synopsis: | The unit provides an opportunity for you to develop your individual research interests through the study of an aspect of the history, theory or practice of architecture in depth, and to present this material primarily in written form. The paper is to take the form of an academic piece of writing structured with a clear argument that reaches a balanced conclusion. The paper should be written as a balanced review of archive material, or as a survey of a building and/or associated products. |
Content: | This unit covers key theories and issues in global contemporary architectural and urban design discourse and practice from late 20th Century, with a focus on current social, political and environmental debates in architecture and their roles in design. The unit considers a range of contemporary architectural responses to such issues by leading practitioners. Students develop their skills in independent research and academic writing with sustained argument on an issue and/or architect of their choice within the framework of the unit. |
