- Critically review key characteristics and interpretations of the term 'international education' and its relationship with other associated concepts
- Critically examine issues which are of relevance to students and teachers in the context of international education
- Critically analyse an appropriate range of literature and empirical research relating to international education
- Critically review how trends, developments and innovations in international education are impacting upon issues such as inequality, sustainability and social justice

Synopsis: | Analyse concepts and theories related to international education and develop your understanding of its interrelationship with associated concepts such as global citizenship.
You'll learn about emerging developments and trends and critically analyse the theory and practice of international education in different educational institutions, curricula and contexts. You'll engage with contesting perspectives regarding values, inequalities, and sustainable educational models. |

Content: | In this unit, the following topics will be engaged with:
- Trends and developments in international education and the impact of globalisation
- The relationship between values and ideologies (nationally and internationally), and how the underlying value system of a school relates to the curricula, pedagogies and management styles adopted
- Inter-relationships between culture and the curriculum
- The concept of an international curriculum
- The concept of international schools
- The concepts of international education and its associated concepts such as global citizenship education and sustainable development
- Key issues relating to a variety of educational stakeholders (e.g. teachers, administrators, students, parents) in institutions promoting international education
- The development of models for promoting international education
- Linking key issues arising from research in international education to your own experience and to the improvement of your own current and future practice
