1. Analyse key issues and topics pertaining to sport policy and development
2. Analyse and apply relevant social sciences theories and concepts in examining the social, economic, policy, and environmental dimensions of sport for development 3. Analyse and apply ideas from reputable academic (e.g., scholarly journals) and non-academic (e.g., organisational reports) sources in examining sport policy and development from historical and contemporary perspectives 4. Articulate advanced issues, theories, principles, and perspectives relevant to sport policy and development research projects to intended audiences, such as academics and practitioners, using appropriate technologies 5. Identify and evaluate problems, challenges and solutions in sport policy and development 6. Strengthen, refine, and discuss informed opinions on sport policy and development. |
Aims: | The aim of this unit is to interrogate the concept of development and consider whether and how development can be achieved through practical- and policy-related interventions in domestic and international contexts. |

Content: | Sport policy and governance; statistics and trends in physical activity participation; community-based sport and physical activity interventions; civil society and non-governmental organisations; sport and social change; benefits and drawbacks of volunteering/volunteerism; sport and sustainable development; sport policy and development in the Global North and Global South; sport for international development; sport and peace; power and inequality in sport for development. |
