Requisites:
Learning Outcomes: Critically discuss the roles and responsibilities of the Sport and Exercise Doctor with respect to local, regional and national contexts. Recognise the limits of the scope of practice of all MDT members, including the Sport and Exercise Doctor. Critically appraise the evidence-base for anti-doping legislation and codes of practice as applied to the management of recreational and elite athletes, and the exercising general population, and apply those principles. Interpret the legal frameworks which relate to sport and exercise medicine and give advice on the appropriate action to protect medical practitioners, athletes, and patients in law. Critically appraise a range of evidence which supports your management of a complex ethical scenario, including a discussion of the possible ethical dilemmas arising between the doctor and others involved in sport.


Synopsis: Explore performance and health management within clinical contexts, ranging from application within primary or secondary care settings, to sports environments. You'll learn about appropriately directing the medical care of patients at all levels, and study topics like: - the roles and responsibilities of the sport and exercise doctor - anti-doping legislation and codes of practice - legal frameworks relating to sport and exercise medicine - ethical issues in sport and exercise medicine

Content: Applying evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning in the management of complex clinical scenarios. The evidence-base for a range of topics relevant to sport and exercise medicine. The delivery of sport and exercise medicine in a range of settings.
