Requisites:
Learning Outcomes: At the end of this unit, the student will be able to: 1. Identify how cells, organs and tissues in the human body respond to physical activity, and explain how regular activity and diet affects these physiological systems. 2. Compare and contrast appropriate techniques that are available for the investigation of physiological changes that occur in response to exercise. 3. Delineate the major molecular processes that lead to cellular repair or cell death. 4. Explain the development and progress of different disorders.


Synopsis: You will develop a fundamental understanding of the physiological changes that occur as a result of physical activity and explore the interaction between physical activity, nutrition and energy balance.

Content: Energy systems, energy balance, substrate use during exercise, nutrition, limits to exercise tolerance, resistance exercise, redox biology, inflammation and exercise immunology.
