Requisites:
Learning Outcomes: �Describe the components of a diet that fulfil the requirements of an athlete across a range of sporting contexts. �Explain the role of the macronutrients and micronutrients in an athlete�s diet and recognise the risks posed by deficiencies. �Explain how fluid balance is maintained and how changes to hydration status could impact on sporting performance. Evaluate the role of and evidence base for, the use of nutritional supplements. �Discriminate between different weight management techniques and identify the risk factors for disordered eating and eating disorders.


Synopsis: "Explore key concepts in sports nutrition. You will study and critically examine the role of an athletes diet in the process of adaptation to training, supporting effective recovery and fuelling sports performance. "

Content: Energy requirements, intake balance, and availability; Macronutrients; Micronutrients; Digestion and absorption; Fluid balance; Nutritional supplements; Weight management and eating disorders.
