[Page last updated: 03 June 2024]

Academic Year: 2024/25
Owning Department/School: Department for Health
Credits: 7.5 [equivalent to 15 CATS credits]
Notional Study Hours: 150
Level: Honours (FHEQ level 6)
Period:
Semester 1
Assessment Summary: CWSI 100%
Assessment Detail:
  • Set excercises (CWSI 100%)
Supplementary Assessment:
Like-for-like reassessment (where allowed by programme regulations)
Requisites: Before taking this module you must take HL20533 AND take HL20535
Learning Outcomes:
  1. Analyse internal joint moments using inverse dynamics analysis
  2. Critique the assumptions made within inverse dynamics analysis and assess the influence upon joint moment calculations
  3. Evaluate the sources of error in biomechanical measurements and appraise the influence of data smoothing on output variables

Aims: To evaluate and apply advanced biomechanical methods and integrate different biomechanical data to analyse how motion is produced.

Content:
  • The theory, practical considerations and limitations of inverse dynamics analysis.
  • Sources of error in biomechanical data, smoothing techniques and their influence on subsequent kinematic or kinetic calculations.
  • Methods for the estimation of body segment inertia parameters (mass, centre of mass and moment of inertia) and their influence on biomechanical calculations.
