  • Data Analysis Report (CWRI 50%)
  • Exam (EXOB 50%)
Supplementary Assessment:
Like-for-like reassessment (where allowed by programme regulations)
Requisites: Before taking this module you must take MA12009
Learning Outcomes: By the end of the course you will be able to:
  • Select and perform appropriate hypothesis tests.
  • Use concepts from experimental design to perform suitable analysis of variance.
  • Perform regression analyses and use techniques for model choice.
  • Identify the main characteristics of time-dependent data to build appropriate time series models.
  • Use time series forecasting techniques to predict future data.
  • Use statistical computing to perform the methods learnt during the course.
  • Interpret output from statistical techniques to report results for a business audience.

Synopsis: In this unit you will learn statistical methods and models commonly used in business applications, e.g. hypothesis testing, regression analysis and forecasting time-dependent data. You will develop skills in statistical judgement to assist you in choosing appropriate models for analysing data. You will also learn how to use statistical computing to perform analyses, validate models and report results.

Content: Sampling distributions and uncertainty One- and two-sample hypothesis tests Experimental design and ANOVA Estimation of parameters of normal model Simple and multiple linear regression models Regression model selection techniques Regression model validation and diagnostics Time series modelling and forecasting methods
