Requisites:
Learning Outcomes: After successfully completing this unit, you will be able to: 1. Select suitable actuator types for different applications (electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic etc.). 2. Model dynamic mechatronic systems, and use software tools to simulate their behaviour. 3. Predict the behaviour of closed loop control systems using linear models. 4. Determine the frequency response and stability characteristics of control systems. 5. Design controllers to improve steady state and dynamic performance, particularly Proportional-Integral-Derivative controllers. 6. Implement digital closed-loop controllers and filters, and demonstrate this using a microcontroller.

Synopsis: On this unit, you will analyse and design closed-loop control systems that integrate actuation, sensing and electronic control hardware.

Content: Actuator technology System modelling and simulation Closed loop control (transfer functions, step response, frequency response, stability, Proportional-Integral Derivative control) Introduction to digital control Topics for self-study that could be assessed
