  • an understanding of key concepts used in political argument and in the analysis of political phenomena;
  • understanding of key analytical approaches to the study of politics and the role of ideas in politics;
  • critical and analytical modes of thinking about politics and political analysis, including a capacity for the interrogation of the key categories via which we think and act, politically.



Synopsis: Explore essential concepts and analytical approaches that shape politics and political analysis and develop a sophisticated understanding of the building blocks of political life. Youll cover a range of political concepts and study different analytical perspectives, from power and liberty to climate and race.

Content: This unit is divided in two main themes - Key Concepts and Analytical Perspectives. Each theme will include theoretical and conceptual elements, as well as providing the opportunity to discuss contemporary issues and events. Although emphasis is on theoretical aspects of political studies, the unit will also equip students with tools to analyse political events.
