  • Students will be able to develop their critical analysis of different cultural works (cinema, art) and political and economic processes (revolution, authoritarianism, dependency)
  • Students will also develop decolonial analysis bringing a critical eye to Global North vs Global South processes
  • Students will develop independent study skills

Content: This unit will: Explore 20 and C21 Latin American political history Examine economic processes such as dependency and economic development Develop an understanding of political processes specific to the region, such as revolutions, authoritarianism, populism, transitions to democracy, etc Examine key ideas in Latin American cultural history as expressed through cinematic and artistic works Analyse the historical socio-political context in relation to Latin American cultural production Explore concepts of modernity and identity in diverse Latin American cultural production
