- Apply gender and feminist theory to the analysis of political structures;

- Select, systematise and use evidence, data and information from a variety of secondary and primary sources in accordance to the ethical requirements of study;

| Synopsis: | "Explore key concepts in the study of gender and politics, including participation, representation, and gendered institutions.
You will gain an understanding of feminist and gender theory addressing these concepts (for instance, the question of whether women need female representatives) and learn to evaluate this theory.
You will then apply this knowledge in a case study paper focused on a country of your choosing."

| Content: | The unit begins by addressing overarching theoretical issues in the study of gender and politics, namely key questions such as 'what is gender?' (and what do we mean by 'politics'?) as well as exploring the diverse array of feminist perspectives on power and the political. From there, it addresses a series of key concepts and issues in gender politics, including participation, representation, the gender dynamics of political institutions and the 'state', men and masculinities, and gender in international relations.
