Requisites:
Learning Outcomes: By the end of the unit, you should be able to: - Describe and critically evaluate different ways of conceptualising mental and physical health problems in adults and children, including transdiagnostic approaches and links between mental and physical health - Demonstrate an understanding of research methods relevant to clinical psychology, including epidemiology - Integrate psychological theory with clinical practice - Critically evaluate psychological interventions in children and adults - Appreciate diversity, and critically evaluate adaptations of psychological interventions for different groups


Synopsis: Develop a critical understanding of research and appreciation of psychological theories accounting for physical and mental health problems in adults and children, including Biological, Neurological, Behavioural, Cognitive and Systems theories. You will develop a critical appreciation of the role of the clinical psychologist in and outside the UK. You will become familiar with health service provision and develop knowledge and skills on integrating psychological theory with clinical practice.

Content: This unit will provide you with a theoretical background to key professional issues in mental and physical health across the lifespan. You will evaluate the main theoretical approaches to mental and physical health across the lifespan and examine common psychological disorders. You will consider the increasing importance of evidence-based practice and the distinctive contribution Clinical Psychology can make in a multi-disciplinary workplace. You will develop your skills at integrating psychological theory with clinical practice via clinical case illustrations and understand models of health service delivery and organisational issues.
