Synopsis: Develop key transferrable skills to successfully perform in your professional life and as a graduate student. By searching and reviewing information and arguing based on evidence, you'll undertake a piece of independent research and be able to critically reflect on the ways in which research feeds into development policy. Exploring a range of research methods, you'll be able to successfully undertake the dissertation or practicum stage of your chosen pathway.

Content: This unit introduces students to the basics of research design and research methods as well writing skills for international development. The unit includes activities aimed at developing the practical skills necessary for undertaking literature reviews, comparing, and contrasting a range of research methodologies, and formulating an argument. Students in this unit will develop an independent research question, choose an appropriate methodology, understand case studies, and use evidence effectively. The unit also features some hands-on learning-by-doing exercises.
