Apply to Red-ALERT

You can apply for a Red-ALERT studentship to study at one of a total of 4 higher education institutions.

Factsheet

Funded PhD Studentships
Red-ALERT is a UKRI (NERC) funded Centre for Doctoral Training, offering up to a maximum of 16 fully-funded studentships across the University of Bath; Bangor University; Cardiff University; and the university of Exeter, and starting in October each year.

Our PhD studentships are built around research projects, co-created between academic supervisors from one of our 5 partner institutions, and scientists working across industry and government institutions.

Application Guidance
All approved research projects will be advertised on FindAPhD in late autumn each year, and will be linked to our webpage. Please ensure you read through the project advert and the research methodology before applying to Red-ALERT.

Entry Requirements
Successful applicants normally hold, and/or expect to receive:

  • A first or upper second class honours degree or equivalent in a related subject.
  • Research or professional experience.

Although it is not a requirement, most applicants will have completed a master’s-level qualification in a related subject. Contact Red-ALERT on redalertcdt@bath.ac.uk if you are unsure about your eligibility and would like to discuss your potential application.

English language requirements
There are a number of ways you can officially prove your language skills for entry into Higher Education in the UK:

  • IELTS: 6.5 overall with no less than 6.0 in all components.
  • The Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): 62 with no less than 59 in any element.
  • TOEFL IBT: 90 overall with a minimum 21 in all 4 components.

If you need to improve your English language skills before starting your studies, you may be able to take a pre-sessional course to reach the required level.
