We accept a range of qualifications for students applying from overseas. This page includes an overview of the main qualifications we accept for a selection of countries.

We welcome applicants from across the globe, so if your country isn’t included on this page, you can still apply for an undergraduate, taught postgraduate or postgraduate research course.

English language requirements

If you apply to study at Bath, you need to meet the minimum English language requirements for your course. You must check these requirements on your chosen course page.

China

Accepted Chinese qualifications

Undergraduate students from China

Unfortunately, we are unable to consider the Senior Secondary School Graduation Certificate or Chinese University Entrance Exam (Gaokao) qualifications for direct entry.

We do consider A levels or International Baccalaureate qualifications.

Taught postgraduate students from China

You should have a four year bachelor's degree with a final overall score of at least 70 to 80%, depending on the course you are applying for. We may make an offer based on a lower grade if you can provide evidence of your suitability for the degree.

Postgraduate research students from China

A first class bachelor’s degree and some research experience or a master’s degree with research elements is desirable.

France

Accepted French qualifications

Undergraduate students from France

We welcome applications from students with the Baccalauréat Général, French International Baccalauréat (BFI), or Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB). Our typical offers vary from 13 to 17 overall (or 12 to 16 for the BFI or OIB) with grades of 14 to 16 in one or two speciality subjects in the final year (depending on degree course). Some degrees will require specific subjects to be studied as speciality subjects in the final year.

We also consider A levels or International Baccalaureate qualifications.

Taught postgraduate students from France

You should have a Grade de Licence/Grade de License professionalle of 11.5 to 13 out of 20, depending on the course you are applying for. We may make an offer based on a lower grade if you can provide evidence of your suitability for the degree.

Postgraduate research students from France

A first class bachelor’s degree and some research experience or a master’s degree with research elements is desirable.

Greece

Accepted Greek qualifications

Undergraduate students from Greece

We accept the Apolytirion when it is studied alongside A levels. Our typical offers vary from 18.5 to 19.5 with AB to A*A in two A levels. Some degrees may require specific grades in individual A level subjects.

We also consider A levels on their own or International Baccalaureate qualifications.

Taught postgraduate students from Greece

You should have a bachelor's degree (Ptychio) or Diploma with a final result of 6 to 6.5 out of 20, depending on the course you are applying for. We may make an offer based on a lower grade if you can provide evidence of your suitability for the degree.

Postgraduate research students from Greece

A first class bachelor’s degree and some research experience or a master’s degree with research elements is desirable.

Hong Kong

Accepted Hong Kong qualifications

Undergraduate students from Hong Kong

We accept the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE). Our typical offers vary from 5*,5,5 to 5,4,4 in three elective subjects (depending on degree course). We also accept two electives plus either Core Maths or Core English for most courses. Some degrees require grades in specific elective or Extended Maths subjects.

We also consider A levels or International Baccalaureate qualifications.

Taught postgraduate students from Hong Kong

You should have a bachelor's degree (Honours) with a final overall result of at least second class Division 1 Honours or 2.5 to 3.0 out of 4.0, depending on the course you are applying for. We may make an offer based on a lower grade if you can provide evidence of your suitability for the degree.

Postgraduate research students from Hong Kong

A first class bachelor’s degree and some research experience or a master’s degree with research elements is desirable.

India

Accepted Indian qualifications

Undergraduate students from India

We accept the Higher Secondary School Certificates (XII Standard). We make offers on an average of your best four subjects, with an average of between 75% and 90% (depending on degree course). Some degrees may require specific marks in individual subjects. These requirements are for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) boards. We consider other boards but requirements may differ.

We also consider A levels or International Baccalaureate qualifications.

Taught postgraduate students from India

Typically, you should have a bachelor's degree with a final overall result of at least a first class bachelor's degree. However, due to the number of different grading scales in use, we ask that you upload a copy of the grading scale used by your institution, along with your transcript, when you submit your application.

Postgraduate research students from India

A first class bachelor’s degree and some research experience or a master’s degree with research elements is desirable.

Malaysia

Accepted Malaysian qualifications

Undergraduate students from Malaysia

We accept the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) qualification. Our typical offers vary from AAA to ABB, depending on the degree course. Some degrees will require specific grades in individual subjects.

We also consider A levels or International Baccalaureate qualifications.

Taught postgraduate students from Malaysia

You should have a bachelor's degree with a final overall result of at least second class (Division 2) to (Division 1), depending on the course you are applying for. We may make an offer based on a lower grade if you can provide evidence of your suitability for the degree.

Postgraduate research students from Malaysia

A first class bachelor’s degree and some research experience or a master’s degree with research elements is desirable.

Singapore

Accepted Singapore qualifications

Undergraduate students from Singapore

We accept Singapore A levels. Our typical offer ranges from AAA to ABB in three H2 level subjects. We also consider the Polytechnic Diploma (three years) with typical offers ranging from 3.5 to 3.2. Some degrees will require specific grades in individual subjects.

Taught postgraduate students from Singapore

You should have a bachelor's degree (Honours) with a final overall result of second class (Lower) to (Upper) Honours, 50 to 60% or B to C depending on the course you are applying for. You can check the institutions we accept on your taught postgraduate course page.

We may make an offer based on a lower grade if you can provide evidence of your suitability for the degree.

Postgraduate research students from Singapore

A first class bachelor’s degree and some research experience or a master’s degree with research elements is desirable.

Spain

Accepted Spanish qualifications

Undergraduate students from Spain

We welcome applications from students with the Título de Bachiller. Our typical offers vary from 8 to 9.2 overall (depending on degree course). Some degrees may require specific grades in individual subjects.

We also consider A levels or International Baccalaureate qualifications.

Taught postgraduate students from Spain

You should have:

  • a Título Universitario Oficial de Licenciado en (subject area) (Licenciatura)
  • a Título Universitario Oficial de Graduado en (subject area) (Grado)
  • a Título de Ingeniero or Título de Arquitecto with a final overall result of 6 to 6.5 out of 10, depending on the course you are applying for.

We may make an offer based on a lower grade if you can provide evidence of your suitability for the degree.

Postgraduate research students from Spain

A first class bachelor’s degree and some research experience or a master’s degree with research elements is desirable.

Taiwan

Accepted Taiwanese qualifications

Unfortunately, we are unable to consider the Senior High School Diploma qualification for direct entry.

We do consider A levels, Advanced Placement (AP), or International Baccalaureate qualifications.

Taught postgraduate students from Taiwan

You should have a bachelor's degree with a final overall result of at least 70 to 75% depending on the course you are applying for. We may make an offer based on a lower grade if you can provide evidence of your suitability for the degree.

Postgraduate research students from Taiwan

A first class bachelor’s degree and some research experience or a master’s degree with research elements is desirable.

Thailand

Accepted Thai qualifications

Undergraduate students from Thailand

Unfortunately, we are unable to consider the Higher Secondary School Certificate (Mathayom Suksa 6) qualification for direct entry.

We do consider A levels, Advanced Placement (AP), or International Baccalaureate qualifications.

Taught postgraduate students from Thailand

You should have a bachelor's degree with a final overall result of at least a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) 2.6 to 2.8, depending on the course you are applying for. We may make an offer based on a lower grade if you can provide evidence of your suitability for the degree.

Postgraduate research students from Thailand

A first class bachelor’s degree and some research experience or a master’s degree with research elements is desirable.

United Arab Emirates

Accepted United Arab Emirates qualifications

Undergraduate students from the United Arab Emirates

Unfortunately, we are unable to consider the Secondary School Certificate (Tawjihiyya) qualification for direct entry.

We do consider A levels, Advanced Placement (AP), or International Baccalaureate qualifications.

Taught postgraduate students from the United Arab Emirates

You should have a bachelor's degree with a final overall result of at least 2.6 to 3 out of 4, 75 to 80%, or B to C+, depending on the course you are applying for. We may make an offer based on a lower grade if you can provide evidence of your suitability for the degree.

Postgraduate research students from the United Arab Emirates

A first class bachelor’s degree and some research experience or a master’s degree with research elements is desirable.

United States of America

Accepted United States of America qualifications

Undergraduate students from the United States of America

We accept Advanced Placement qualifications. Our typical offers based on APs vary from 5, 4, 4 to 5, 5, 5, 5 (depending on degree course). When assessing your application we will also look for evidence of a high academic standard across a breadth of study through your wider school curriculum or additional test scores.

We may be able to consider your application if you demonstrate a high level of academic achievement through Honours, Dual Enrolment or equivalent ‘advanced’ level classes, assessed on a case-by-case basis.

We also accept International Baccalaureate qualifications and Associate Degrees.

Taught postgraduate students from the United States of America

You should have a Honors bachelor's degree or bachelor's degree with a final overall result of at least CGPA 2.7 to 3.0 on a four-point scale, depending on the course you are applying for. We may make an offer based on a lower grade if you can provide evidence of your suitability for the degree.

Postgraduate research students from the United States of America

A first class bachelor’s degree and some research experience or a master’s degree with research elements is desirable.
