Martin Harris was born in Southampton in 1937. He fell in love with ice hockey as a boy when his father took him to watch the Southampton Vikings play, and spent the next sixty years researching the sport, recording its origins and development in the UK. As well as being a match official and serving two terms on the governing board of the British Ice Hockey Association, he was a regular contributor to ice hockey journals and is the author of several highly-regarded books. He is widely acknowledged as an authority on the history of British ice hockey.
The collection is extensive and comprises several thousand programmes, yearbooks, scrapbooks, magazines, photographs, player cards, posters, press cuttings, books, pin badges and other associated memorabilia relating to UK and international ice hockey from the end of the 19th century to the present day.
The collection was kindly donated to the University of Bath by Mr Harris in 2022.
