Find out how to use AV equipment in teaching rooms and small theatre spaces

The University has a variety of teaching spaces equipped with various technologies. This guide will give you an overview of the AV equipment in teaching rooms and small theatre spaces and how to use it.

Starting your session (both small and large teaching rooms)

Using the PC

  1. Log onto the lectern PC using your University username (e.g. abc123@bath.ac.uk) and password, then select 'PC 'on the control panel.
  2. From the control panel select the source you wish to display.
  3. If you are in a larger theatre, you will be first asked what kind of projector layout you wish to use.

Note: It is important in rooms with combined projection and whiteboards that the board lights are not on whilst the projector is displaying otherwise the image will be washed out.

Selecting dual or single display

Tap the screen to select an input source. The projectors are arranged from the audience's perspective.

You can also control lighting, cameras, and volume.

To temporarily blank a projector, tap the green 'Blank' button. Tap it again to restore the projection.

Using the wearable wireless microphones

To capture audio effectively in teaching spaces, you need to wear a microphone.

The microphone is located in a dock on the lectern, which holds two microphones (one of which is a spare). The microphone is designed to be worn around the neck.

It is necessary to wear them so that:

  • Students can hear you
  • Your voice can be recorded for lecture capture
  • Individuals with hearing aids can use the audio system effectively

To use the microphone:

  1. Remove the microphone from the charging dock. Check the light indicator: a solid green light means the microphone is fully charged. There may be a brief delay before it connects to the receiver and becomes active. The green light should remain solid when it is ready.
  2. Secure the microphone around your neck using the lanyard.
  3. When you have finished, return the microphone to its charging dock to ensure it recharges for the next user.

Note: while the microphone is away from the dock, it is always 'live'. To mute it, return it to the dock.

Connecting your device

Connect your device using the provided HDMI cable, then select 'HDMI' on the control panel.

Finishing your session

Please ensure the room is left as you found it:

  1. Log out of the PC – failing to do so breaches the IT Acceptable Usage Policy.
  2. Disconnect your device(s).
  3. If no one will use the system immediately after you, shut it down using the control panel. Place the wireless microphone back in its dock, ensuring the light turns RED to indicate it is charging."
