The Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) recognises and rewards collaborative work that has had a demonstrable impact on teaching and learning.

The Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) recognises and rewards collaborative work that has had a demonstrable impact on teaching and learning. Introduced in 2016, the scheme highlights the key role of teamwork in higher education.

This year, Bath will be considering applications for the CATE award so if you are part of a team which supports teaching and learning, please consider applying.

Internal support

Information sessions (Teams meeting) to find out more about applying for a CATE aware are being run on the following dates:

  • Wed 16th April 9.30am

  • Fri 25th April 10am

  • Thurs 15th May 10am

  • Mon 16th June 3pm

  • Mon 7th July 3pm

  • Wed 23rd July 2pm

  • Mon 18th Aug 2pm

How to apply

The Centre for Learning and Teaching together with a selection panel will coordinate an internal selection and submission process to select up to three colleagues as nominees for the CATE.

Individuals at the university who feel they may meet the criteria outlined in the application guidance are encouraged to submit a ‘Expression of interest’ form to the CLT. Once received the Bath CATE panel will consider all nominees before the submission to the Advance HE CATE panel.

If you are interested applying, please download and complete the CATE Expression of Interest’ form and submit it by email to the CLT no later than 12pm Monday 1st September 2025.

A team selected to submit for the CATE award will be supported through application writing workshops and mentoring through as part of the support process. In addition to internal support, Advance HE offer written guidance and also run a series of regional and online support workshops for teams, which are free to attend.

Initial expressions of interest: 12pm 1st September 2025

CATE panel review application EOIs: w/c 1st September 2025

Formal submission of application interest: 12pm 22nd September

CATE panel review final applications: w/c 22nd September 2025

Confirmation of nominees (to include a potential reserve): w/c 6th October 2025

TEAL feedback for all applicants: w/c 6th October 2025

Final submission of applications : TBC (typically early February)

Review by PVC Education (Global) and submission to Advance HE : TBC (typically late February)
