Setting up a personal Linux computer to use University printers

How to install the necessary software on your own Linux Operating System (OS) computer to use printers on the University network.

Before setting up your device or printing, make sure you connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi network or you connect to the VPN.

Installing the printer client software

  1. Download ‘PaperCut Print Deploy Client (Linux)’ from Secure Downloads.
  2. Extract the downloaded .zip
  3. Extract pc-print-deploy-client[smps3-pas.campus.bath.ac.uk].zip
  4. Install the .deb (for Debian-based distros) or .rpm (for Redhat-based distros)
  5. Sign in to the PaperCut Print Deploy Client with your University username, like abc1, and password.
  6. The PaperCut Print Deploy Client will automatically install the 'Print 1' and 'Print 2' print queues.

Please note: the PaperCut Print Deploy Client doesn’t currently work on Ubuntu V24.04.

Print settings

The University's default setting for all printing is black and white, double-sided.

If you want to change this, you'll need to edit the settings in your print window before you submit your printing job.
