Setting up a personal Windows computer to use University printers

How to install the necessary software on your own Windows 10 and 11 Operating System (OS) computer to use printers on the University network.

Before setting up your device or printing, make sure you connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi network or you connect to the VPN.

Installing the printer client software

You can only install the printer client software on computers running Windows 10 and 11.

  1. Download ‘PaperCut Print Deploy Client (Windows)’ from Secure Downloads.
  2. Double-click ‘pc-print-deploy-client[smps3-pas.campus.bath.ac.uk].msi’ and continue to install. You may be asked to confirm that you accept that the program will make changes to your computer. Windows download folder
  3. Sign in to the PaperCut Print Deploy Client with your University username, like abc1, and password. PaperCut login page
  4. The PaperCut Print Deploy Client will automatically install the 'Print 1' and 'Print 2' print queues. PaperCut 'My printers' page

Setting your default printer

  1. Open the ‘Start’ Menu.
  2. Select ‘Devices and Printers’.
  3. Select either 'Print 1' or 'Print 2'.
  4. Select ‘Set as default printer'.

Windows 10 users may only see either 'Print 1' or 'Print 2' listed in the 'Printers and Scanners' window. This is due to the way Windows displays multiple printers using the same port.

Both print options are there and can be seen by selecting whichever option is visible in the list. This will prompt a dropdown menu where you can select either 'Print 1' or 'Print 2'.

Print settings

The University's default setting for all printing is black and white, double-sided.

If you want to change this, you'll need to edit the settings in your print window before you submit your printing job.
