Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost

Over fifty years of achievement have seen the University of Bath grow in both size and reputation. Today, Bath is an outstanding and inclusive community of over 20,000 students from 153 countries. We have a strong reputation for quality education and research, and we have entered the top 5 UK universities in the Complete University Guide 2024 and the top 150 universities globally according to the QS World University Rankings, affirming our upward trajectory. We were named the ‘University of the Year’ and ranked 8th best university in the UK by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023 in recognition of our advancements across teaching and student experience.

We are a high-performing, unique and inclusive community of staff and students, committed to delivering innovative research with global impact and excellence in teaching and student experience. Working with our recently appointed Vice-Chancellor, Professor Phil Taylor, our next Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost will build on an outstanding track record of success, and deliver on the fantastic potential to achieve even greater things. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost will be positive and collaborative in advancing and delivering the institution’s strategic vision and will provide academic leadership to the University community, building on our firm foundations and recent successes.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional individual to provide strategic vision and operational delivery leadership with the University Executive Board and wider University community, encouraging a high level of collective ownership of the opportunities and challenges which the University faces. They will be a compelling, credible and highly experienced advocate for the institution, delivering strategic and operational resilience whilst providing high-level support to the Vice-Chancellor. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of significant academic leadership experience in a large and complex higher education institution, an understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the Higher Education sector, both in the UK and internationally, and a leadership style which is authentic, engaging and empathetic, underpinned by personal values of inclusivity, integrity and openness.
