Interim Director of International Relations

The Interim Director of International Relations will provide crucial leadership to the International Relations Team as the University enters a new phase of its global development under the new Vice Chancellor's leadership in August 2024. This role involves developing and implementing international strategies within the higher education sector, collaborating with senior leaders to understand institutional needs, and creating a comprehensive Internationalisation Strategy. The Director will support a highly experienced team, focusing on international collaboration, global opportunities, rankings, and transnational education. Reporting to the Director of Education and Student Services, the role also involves working closely with the PVC Education and Global and the VP External Relations to enhance the University's global presence. Staff management includes supervising the International Partnerships Managers, International Rankings Project Officer, Ministry and Sponsor Liaison, Mobility Officer, and Office Administrator.

About the role

This role involves leading and shaping international policy to drive the University of Bath's global strategy a 12-month fixed-term basis. Key responsibilities include working closely with senior leaders to elevate the university’s global profile, handling risks, and delivering insightful advice and reports. As the head of the International Relations Office, you will cultivate a high-performance culture, align efforts with strategic priorities, and oversee budgeting, compliance, and staff development. Collaboration with academic departments and external partners is critical, along with representing the university in various national and international settings. The position requires a strong commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and ongoing improvement to achieve successful outcomes for students and the university as a whole.

About you

We are seeking a candidate with substantial leadership experience in higher education, particularly in strategic development and internationalization at a senior level. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in driving change, leading teams, and managing budgets. Expertise in developing strategic plans, collaborating with various stakeholders, and understanding international higher education policies is essential. The candidate should also be skilled in generating market insights and exhibit a leadership style that promotes performance and continuous improvement. Strong communication skills, cultural awareness, and a commitment to engaging with stakeholders are important. We value creativity, innovation, agility, and a global perspective, including proficiency in foreign languages and international experience.
