Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Chemical Engineering

About the role

We are seeking a high-calibre and collaborative Lecturer to contribute to the continued success, operation and development of Chemical Engineering at Bath. You will be integral to increasing our well-established research activities on-going across the Department in future-focused technologies for sustainable energy, zero-carbon processes and manufacturing. All of our research-active staff carry out investigations to tackle the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Our degree courses prepare our students to tackle the global challenges we face, such as climate change, and the delivery of sustainable water, energy, food and wellbeing, by offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Chemical Engineering, and Environmental Engineering. The Department benefits from extensive national and international collaboration, excellent research and teaching facilities, and strong links with industry.

You will work in reaction engineering and sustainable energy systems with research interests in environmentally focused applications to achieve triple-bottom-line performance. We welcome both wet lab and in silico research activities, including the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in your research area. You will be a member of one of the Faculty of Engineering & Design Research Centres, as well as Institute for Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems (IAAPS), Institute for Sustainability and Climate Change (IFCC), and Water Innovation and Research Centre (WIRC). You will have access to students on PhD programmes in Sustainable Chemical Technologies and Statistical Applied Mathematics.

You will be expected to undertake personal tutoring of some students as part of the role and will be responsible for assessment of elements of our programmes.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A PhD in Chemical, Environmental or Process Engineering
  • Substantial experience in a relevant research field
  • A creative vision of development and delivery of successful research
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

You will be a kind and culturally aware leader who fosters an environment where every individual is valued and respected, regardless of their background or identity. You will understand that change is inevitable and necessary, actively encouraging your team to adapt and evolve. By promoting a culture of openness and inclusivity, you will create a dynamic and empowered team that can thrive in today's changing world.
