Dr Sophie Collet Director, Research and Innovation Services

Responsible for leading the University’s Research and Innovations Services, helping position the University for future success in a competitive environment.

Role

As Director of RIS, Sophie is responsible for the following services:

  • grant submissions, acceptance and finance
  • large and strategic grants
  • research project management
  • industrial partnerships
  • research commercialisation
  • research and commercialisation contracts
  • research impact

Sophie is Deputy Chair of the Association of Research Managers and Administrators (ARMA). She is a member of the ARMA Board of Directors, Chair of the Finance and Governance Committee and Chair of the EDI Advisory Group.

Career

Sophie has over 20 years’ experience in research and innovation within the Higher Education sector. Prior to joining the University of Bath, she was Director of Strategy, Information and Operations at the University of Bristol where she was responsible for delivery of large-scale strategic initiatives across the research landscape and strategic leadership of the Bristol Doctoral College. She also led on submissions to the Research Excellence Framework (REF), Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF) and Knowledge Exchange (KE) Concordat, alongside research culture, evaluation and assessment.

Education

Sophie holds a joint honours degree in Psychology and Zoology, and a PhD in behavioural ecology from the University of Bristol.
