Buildings Test Facility

Our open-to-the-elements facility offers a platform for research into novel and innovative building materials, technologies and constructive systems. ​

The Buildings Test Facility is open to students and staff of all University departments and to the commercial sector.​

The facility's test platforms include:

  • The HIVE, containing closed-system laboratory spaces ​
  • a large environmental chamber allowing research on materials using a variety of environmental parameters ​
  • a large area of land available for constructing stand-alone buildings (up to 125m3 ) on for research​

We also have a V-Simulator on the University campus which uses virtual-reality projection and a moving hydraulic platform to immerse people in a range of lifelike environments​.

Building Research park facilities

About us

The Buildings Test Facility's test platforms act as bases on which you can build your prototype construction. They are ideal for time-critical research and for validating laboratory test results. Each has its own electrical supply.

The Buildings Test Facility is part of the Research Infrastructure and Facilities service.
