Twenty-three students from a variety of disciplines across the University, together with two members of staff, recently sat for the German Goethe-Zertifikat A2 and B1 examinations. This was the first time that our students were entered for this globally-acknowledged qualification and the exams were held on campus at the beginning of May. The results were outstanding and certificates were given out last week.

Claire Charlemagne Head of Languages said:

It is inspiring to see students achieving such exceptional results in their German Goethe examinations, and I congratulate them for their outstanding performance in all elements of the examination. Their enthusiasm for the language was commended by the visiting examiners; all credit to them and to their teachers, who provided such excellent preparation throughout the year. This success is reflective of our commitment to provide students with world-class opportunities to develop the linguistic and intercultural skills that will set them apart in a competitive global marketplace.

Given the success in the Goethe Zertifikat this year, the Foreign Languages department within the Skills Centre will be offering exams leading to similarly internationally recognised accredited qualifications in a variety of languages from the next academic year.
