This one-day symposium, organised by the Language in and for Education (LifE) Research Group, will bring together a diverse array of presenters to investigate the relationship between language and technology in the context of education.
The overall aim is to inspire creative conversations about new research avenues and novel methodological directions in the field.
Topics that will be covered include:
- the impact of community and identity on academic writing, highlighting how these factors shape scholarly communication
- the portrayal of social actions in university communications
- the exploration of anti-colonial language practices in Nigerian schools
- language models and expert-defined standards for content generation
We will also highlight collaborative art projects that promote multilingualism, demonstrating the cultural and educational benefits of diverse linguistic environments; and explore the role of digital media in fostering children's multiliteracy within families, emphasising the importance of home environments in language development.
The symposium will also be a forum for the discussion of the use of large datasets in motivation research; innovative data collection methods, such as log sheets in mobile-assisted language learning; and the integration of corpus-based pedagogies for enhancing disciplinary literacy.
Collectively, these presentations will offer valuable insights and practical strategies for enhancing educational practices, showcasing innovative approaches, methods, and concepts in exploring the role of language and applications of technology in education research.
