The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the system for assessing research in UK higher education institutions (HEIs) and is carried out every six or seven years.

The first REF took place in 2014, replacing the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), and the next is planned for 2021 which we are currently preparing for.

There are two question and answer sessions taking place this October to provide an opportunity for you to find out more about our REF preparations. You can also ask any questions about how the submission will be prepared.

These Q&As will be with Professor Jonathan Knight, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Katy McKen, Head of Research Information and Impact.

Taking place:

In the meantime you can also complete the REF staff circumstances survey which is open until the 11 October.
