1. Education Strategy
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching), Professor Peter Lambert, and the Director of Academic Registry, Dr John Harris, gave an update on the transformation of the University’s curricula and assessment, including lessons learned from the vanguard programmes. The timetable and main principles were agreed, with further discussion to take place in particular about unit size in years 3, 4 and 5.
2. Academic Probation Process
Senate discussed the Academic Probation Process and endorsed proposals for new processes to support staff in their probationary period.
3. Ethics Committee
Senate appointed the University Secretary as interim Chair of the Ethics Committee with immediate effect, following Dr Gordon Taylor’s resignation.
4. Boards of Studies Dates
Senate agreed the calendar of meetings for Boards of Studies in 2018/19.
5. Student Statistics
Senate noted reports on Student Academic Appeals and Reviews, Student Complaints, Student Disciplinary Statistics, Fitness to Practise Statistics and Fitness to Study Statistics for 2016/17.
6. Honorary Professors
Senate approved the extension of the title of honorary professor for a further three years on Prof David Andrews; conferment of the title of honorary professor for three years on Prof Paul Salkovskis from 18 April 2018; and conferment of the title of Honorary Senior Lecturer for three years on Dr Denise Taylor with effect from 11 April 2018.
