Organised by the University of Bath’s Physics Department, this is a one-day meeting where companies small and large, start-up and established, can introduce their business, research challenges, and ideas for potential collaborations to academics from Bath and GW4, and where academics can in turn share their aspirations and strategy for translational research. Relevant fields encompass nanoscience, photonics, theoretical physics, quantum technologies, advanced materials, medical science and more. Companies are invited to showcase their expertise through pitches, posters or table-top exhibits. Academics will learn how to assess the suitability of their ideas for starting up a company, and how to navigate the spin-out process. Government agencies, business incubators and business angels will explain how to secure seed and continuation funding, and how to engage with a range of investors. Early career researchers will have the chance to participate in a bespoke training programme outlining career paths outside traditional academic routes. A panel session will involve all participants in Q&A, and there will be extensive opportunities for networking. The Bath Knowledge Exchange Team and Research & Innovation Service representatives will be on site to assist both companies and academics in their learning and information exchange and to provide support for kick-starting collaborations.
