On January 6th, the US Capitol was stormed by a mob of Donald Trump supporters attempting to overthrow the election result. The internet often has a role to play in such events, from spreading information to planning and co-ordinating action. Is it therefore the case that events like these can be predicted by online data?
Olivia's research has been exploring how individuals' online interactions reflect their offline actions. In her talk, she will outline the rising threat of right-wing extremism, explain the methods that she is using to explore it, and discuss the challenges and possibilities of predicting offline behaviour using digital data. We will also hear from Dr Lukasz Piwek and Dr David Ellis who will share their experiences and provide some key tips and challenges for using digital data in research.
The seminar will appeal to anyone who is interested in this topic or who has an interest in using digital data in their research.
Please note, the seminar will not be recorded due to the sensitive nature of the content.
