Description: | Aims: The unit aims to examine in detail some of the key contemporary HRM issues and to consider their practical application. Learning Outcomes: After completing this unit the student will be able to: * Understand the significance of key contemporary HRM issues * Establish connections between theoretical issues and the practical application of policies * Develop a detailed understanding of the selected HR policy and practice areas * Analyse and evaluate key practice areas * Critique the existing theoretical models that underpin these practice areas * Develop appropriate skills associated with the practical application of key policy areas. Skills: Apply theory to practical issues and problems (taught, facilitated, assessed) Analyse theory and practice (taught and facilitated) Design sub-sets of HR practices (taught and facilitates) Understand interconnections between HR practices (taught in case analysis) Interview practice (facilitated, assessed) Performance Appraisal practice (facilitated, assessed) Negotiation practice (facilitated, assessed) Downsizing experiential exercise (facilitated, assessed). Content: Theoretical models of HRM and the importance on personal interaction, external and internal resourcing processes in theory and practice, performance management processes in theory and practice, negotiating and bargaining processes in theory and practice, downsizing in theory and experiential exercise. |
