Centre for Motivation and Behaviour Change

We research the psychological determinants of health, wellbeing and performance, spanning the development of theory and effective real-world interventions.

What is the Centre for Motivation and Behaviour Change?

We aim to improve society's understanding of the determinants of health and wellbeing in the context of key public health issues.

Our team of researchers includes psychologists, and behavioural and exercise scientists working to guide the development, refinement, and testing of novel and innovative interdisciplinary interventions. We have particular expertise in:

  • community and public health
  • digital health
  • mental health, stress and thriving
  • motivation and habit
  • nutrition, physical activity, exercise and sport
  • prevention and management of chronic conditions

We have attracted funding for our research from organisations including the National Institute for Health Research; the Medical Research Council; the Economic and Social Research Council; the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council; and various charitable organisations. We have also written and published over 500 research papers.
