Disorders of Eating and Body Image (DEBI) Research Group

We research eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image, with a focus on effective prevention, early intervention, and suitable treatment.

About our group

Our multidisciplinary team is committed to advancing research on eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image.

We conduct applied, clinically relevant research to understand risk and protective factors, and improve prevention and treatment. This is vital amid rising numbers of young people facing challenges with eating and body image, as well as high rates of treatment dropout and relapse.

Our members have expertise in psychology and health research, and clinical practice experience.

Our aims

As a group, we want to:

  • engage with people with lived experience of eating disorders, disordered eating and body image difficulties to deliver impactful research that tackles root causes
  • provide impactful prevention and treatment interventions that enhance and inform the training and practice of clinicians, educators and services
  • make the University of Bath a leader in scientific research in these areas, and build collaborative networks that span academia, clinical practice, and industry
