Bob was one of our most loved and valued volunteers. He was the face of BRLSI to countless visitors and members for nearly thirty years, sharing his kindness, warmth, humour, fervent sense of curiosity, and belief that culture was for the many and not the few. It was for a lifetime of dedication to BRLSI that Bob was awarded the MBE in the New Year’s Eve Honours list in 2005.

Bob worked full-time at the University of Bath for 40 years and by acting as a very strong link was able to bring mutual benefits to both BRLSI and the University. For the University, in terms of providing opportunities for membership, especially for young people; for BRLSI, in terms of speakers and links with up to date research in STEM.

We will be celebrating Bob’s life and his many contributions to BRLSI at a special event on the afternoon 21 October. It will include the launch of an online tribute to Bob as well as announcements about the ways in which BRLSI will honour his memory for future generations.
