Centre for the study of Education in an International Context (CEIC)
Research
CEIC brings together academics with areas of research interest relating to international education in its various forms.
In addition to members of academic staff, a number of research students are also associated with the centre, being supervised by CEIC members of staff. There is an overlap in the research interests and activities of CEIC members and those of the International Baccalaureate Organization's Research Team (IBRT), which is based within the Department of Education.
Academic Members of Staff and their research interests
- Dr Mary Hayden (Director, CEIC) - International schools and international education, with particular interest in issues relating to students and teachers.
- Mr Michael Fertig - Issues relating to school effectiveness and school improvement, and management, with particular interest in the context of international schools and developing countries
- Dr Trevor Grimshaw - International language education; intercultural issues in language education; sociology of language learning and teaching
- Dr Harriet Marshall - Global citizenship education; sociology of knowledge and the curriculum in a global context
- Professor Jeff Thompson - Development of the conceptual understanding of international schools and international education, with particular interest in issues relating to curriculum and assessment
- George Walker (visiting professor) - International schools and international education, with particular interest in issues relating to the international curriculum
